Finland appoints a Special Envoy for Peace Mediation in the Horn of Africa.

Date:

Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen has officially re-appointed Suldaan Said Ahmed as her Special Envoy on Peace Mediation in the region.

Suldaan Said Ahmed, a seasoned diplomat with a wealth of experience in the conflict in the Horn of Africa, previously held the position and played a crucial role in diplomatic efforts aimed at mitigating tensions and promoting dialogue among nations in the Horn of Africa.

Minister Valtonen, in a statement released by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed her confidence in Suldaan Said Ahmed’s ability to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape of the Horn of Africa. The re-appointment underscores Finland’s dedication to contributing to peaceful solutions in the region and its recognition of Ahmed’s valuable expertise.

“Resolving conflicts peacefully has always been an aim of Finnish foreign policy. Said Ahmed’s extensive networks are a great asset in our work for stability in the region,” says Minister Valtonen.

Suldaan Said Ahmed’s role as Special Envoy involves facilitating dialogue, building diplomatic bridges, and supporting initiatives that contribute to lasting peace in the Horn of Africa. The region has been grappling with various challenges, including border disputes, political instability, and economic uncertainties.

The re-appointment comes at a critical time when tensions have been on the rise between some nations in the Horn of Africa. Tension between Somalia, Ethiopia, and Somaliland is growing, and Suldaan Said Ahmed is expected to leverage his experience and relationships within the region to encourage open communication and collaborative efforts toward conflict resolution to resume the stalled talks between Somaliland and Somalia.

As the Special Envoy resumes his duties, all eyes are on the diplomatic efforts that will unfold in the coming months. The hope is that Ahmed’s experience and Finland’s commitment to peace will contribute to positive developments in the Horn of Africa, fostering stability and cooperation among nations in the region.
